Balancing light and dark, the beauty and importance of both
For most light is more comfortable, more familiar. The dark represents mystery and the unknown and it certain aspects of culture and media it is often villianized. The truth is there is literally light and dark in all living beings. It is important to acknowledge and be present with both. There is much to learn from both aspects. There is the fertile dark - similar to when a seed is underground preparing to sprout. From the outside it can appear nothing is happening, however, there is something close to magic happening below the surface in the dark. In fact, to take it one step further most seeds cannot germinate in light, they actually need the darkness to start to become something.
When we look at the darkness inside ourselves this doesn’t mean something”bad” as pop culture would have you think. It is actually to spend time with the parts of ourselves and subconscious that is usually not at the forefront of our daily waking experience. Looking at the darkness could be sitting in meditation, it could be remebering and reflecting on dreams, it could be observing a reaction or feeling in you that is unexpected and being curious about it. To be able to be self-reflexive when looking the darkness, one has to have a base of an observer sense of self or a spiritual sense of self. This is practiced in meditation.
Ironically, looking at the light aspects of self is also observed and experienced in meditation. These are aspects we are more familiar with or it could also mean connecting with a higher power in the meditation itself.
Both have meaning and value. And both form the basis of what it is to be human.
